ENERGY STAR 2010 Award Sustained Excellence

JELD-WEN Windows and Doors Helps Habitat for Humanity Employees Lend a Hand with Time and Products

(WINNIPEG, Manitoba) July 30, 2010 — A team of 25 JELD-WEN volunteers helped Habitat for Humanity build a bigger and stronger community for Elmwood / East Kildonan residents on July 22, 2010. The event was part of a cross-Canada initiative celebrating the 50th anniversary of JELD-WEN, with each plant or office donating 50 hours of volunteer time to a local, non-profit organization.

Employees helped with the construction of Habitat for Humanities largest build in Manitoba on the corner of Nairn Avenue and Chester Street, formerly the site of Sir Sam Steele School. With 32 homes slated for construction, not only was the size of the build ambitious, so were the building plans. Based on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, the homes are expected to receive gold or platinum certification once completed.

“They’re going to be some of the greenest homes in the province,” said Laura Kirk, Western Marketing Manager for JELD-WEN Canada. “This project is particularly exciting because the windows and doors used in the construction are helping to make the properties even more energy efficient.”

For over 20 years, JELD-WEN Windows and Doors has been helping Habitat for Humanity through volunteer efforts, project funding and product donations. The 12,000-square-foot duplexes will be using JELD-WEN ENERGY STAR rated tripane windows and fiberglass exterior doors. The material is a mix of donation and at-cost products, with a retail value of over $40,000. Construction is slated to wrap up by the end of 2010 with families moving in next year.

JELD-WEN Windows and Doors was founded in 1960 and currently employs over 1,700 Canadians. In 2003, JELD-WEN consolidated their 27 brands under a single product identity. It is now one of the largest manufacturers of windows and doors with locations in 22 countries and more than 20,000 employees worldwide. Learn more at www.jeld-wen.ca.
