(WINNIPEG, Manitoba) December 13, 2010 — Window and door manufacturer JELD-WEN is celebrating a seven years of sponsoring Canadian winter sports this December. The company currently supports both hockey and curling partnerships from coast to coast and will kick off its seventh straight sponsorship year in Buffalo, New York at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.
Hockey has been a major focus for JELD-WEN, who sponsors four Canadian NHL teams (Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa and Montreal) two AHL teams (Winnipeg and Quebec), the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship and the World Under‐17 Hockey Challenge. These longstanding partnerships represent more than rink boards or program ads. They’re a tribute to the company’s roots and a commitment to the communities in which JELD-WEN operates.
In addition to hockey, JELD-WEN also supports over a dozen Canadian curling teams including top‐ranked Jeff Stoughton and Jennifer Jones. JELD-WEN started its curling sponsorship with Kerry Burtnyk in 2007 and has expanded its presence from sponsoring teams to supporting provincial tournaments such as the Safeway Championship and Tim Hortons Brier.
“Winter sports play such an important part in Canadian culture,” says Sante Cigana, Vice President of JELD-WEN Canada. “We’re proud to celebrate seven years of support and we’re committed to maintaining a continued presence in the coming years.”
While the JELD-WEN winter sports program is national in focus, the company has also invested significant funds in helping local athletes develop their skills. From coast to coast, smaller towns and municipalities have also been supported through this initiative. The largest being the JELDWEN rink board program that has helped over 50 communities across Canada provide more access and better facilities to their residents.
“As Canada’s largest window and door manufacturer, we have an obligation to support our community activities,” says Chris Sheldon, Director of Marketing, JELD-WEN Windows and Doors Canada. “If our involvement in Canadian winter sport helps one Olympic hopeful realize his or her dreams, then it’s all worthwhile.”
